Life Sciences in the Service of Decision-Making

The Institutul pentru Științele Vieții (Institute for Life Sciences, ISV) is an independent research and analysis think tank based in Suceava, in the heart of Bukovina. We generate applied knowledge that turns environmental challenges into economic and social opportunities, bringing the bioeconomy and technological innovation into harmony with the preservation of natural and cultural heritage.

Mission and vision

Our mission is clear: the life sciences must not stay in the laboratory — they must guide strategic decisions. Our vision is a society in which environmental protection, economic development and the continuity of communities are treated as a single system, not as competing interests. We work at the intersection of applied research and European public policy, on files such as the forest bioeconomy, forest carbon, LULUCF, EUDR, ecosystem restoration and integrated rural development.

Our areas of work

Our areas of work reflect the realities on the ground.

Bioeconomy and natural resources

Value chains, EUTR/EUDR compliance, sustainable use of wood, forest ecosystems.

Environment and sustainability

Biodiversity, peatlands, environmental footprint, climate education.

Heritage and cultural identity

Traditional crafts, revitalizing Romanian villages, sustainable tourism.

Fact-based analysis, open data

We publish citable analyses, policy briefs, data notes and commentaries at a steady pace, because influence is built through anticipation and rigor, not volume. Our data is open, with transparent sources and methodology. We believe that a healthy forest and a strong economy are built on facts, not emotions.

Knowledge from Bukovina for the decisions that matter

The forest is in no hurry — but it will not wait forever. Neither will we. ISV is the instrument through which applied knowledge from Bukovina and from Romania contributes to the decisions that matter, at the national and European levels.
