About
I am Dr. Ciprian Dumitru Muscă — a PhD in forestry, President of the Romanian Foresters’ Association (ASFOR) and an associate researcher at the Romanian Academy (CSCBAS), specialising in biodiversity and forest management.
I believe a forest is not protected by ignoring it, but by caring for it. And whoever cares for it also protects it. This is the conviction I write, speak and build projects from: forestry is not a dispute between “cutting” and “not cutting”, but a choice between active management and abandonment.
What I do
I work where science, public policy and advocacy meet. Through ASFOR, I coordinate positions and legislative proposals in the forest sector and represent Romanian foresters at national and European level. As an associate researcher at the Romanian Academy, I contribute to studies on biodiversity and forest ecosystems. And through ISV — the Institute for Life Sciences, I turn these topics into analysis and evidence-based policy.
I take part in European debates where decisions are made — from Brussels to Vienna and Helsinki — so that the voice of Romania’s forest bioeconomy is present at the table where the rules are written.
Why I write here
ciprianmusca.ro is my personal space for analysis and opinion. Here I write about forest policy, the bioeconomy, the environment and sustainable development — without press-release jargon and without partisanship. I aim for three things: perspective on a subject that is often oversimplified, clarity in a debate that thrives on confusion, and balance where alarmism is preferred.
Because forestry is, above all, about time. Today’s forest is the result of decisions taken a hundred years ago, and tomorrow’s forest depends on what we choose now. In that sense, I see myself simply as a steward between generations.
Most of my writing is in Romanian. Every article on this site has an English title and abstract; browse them here.
